The principle of anti-theft technology for smart prepayment meters can be explained from multiple aspects, mainly including physical structure and electronic control. The following are the specific technical principles for preventing electricity theft in smart prepayment meters:

1、 Anti theft technology at the physical structure level

Bidirectional counter:

Replace the counter of a regular electric energy meter with a bidirectional counter with a reversing wheel mechanism. This counter is a patented product. When the user changes the polarity of the current and voltage coils, uses a tamper (based on changing the phase of the current and voltage), or reverses the aluminum disk of the energy meter in other ways, the counter maintains the positive count of the energy meter through a reversing mechanism, thereby preventing the user from using the above methods to reverse the count of the counter. This design enables the anti-theft electricity meter to have anti reverse and anti reverse wire functions.

Voltage hook design:

Once the voltage coil hook in the junction box of a regular electric energy meter is removed, the meter will stop rotating due to the voltage coil losing power, but the user can continue to use electricity. In order to prevent this situation, the anti-theft electricity meter has added a voltage hook inside the meter cover. Even if the hook inside the junction box is removed, there are still hooks inside the meter that cannot be removed, making it impossible for users to steal electricity through this method.

Current coil design:

The current coil assembly of the anti-theft electricity meter consists of a single winding main current coil and a reverse winding auxiliary current coil. These two coils are connected in series and installed in the meter. The main coil has more windings than the main coil of a typical meter, and the added number of turns is the reverse winding secondary current coil. In this way, after the main and auxiliary current coils are connected in series, the total number of turns is still the same as the original number of turns in the general table, as the reverse winding part of the auxiliary coil exactly offsets the positive winding part of the main coil that has multiple windings. This design makes it difficult for users to steal electricity by changing the current circuit.


2、 Anti electricity theft technology at the electronic control level

Zero sequence current transformer monitoring:

Add a controller consisting of transformers, relays, and electronic circuits to the anti-theft electricity meter. The phase and neutral lines of the main circuit pass through the coils of the zero sequence current transformer. During normal working hours, the current on the two lines is equal in magnitude and opposite in direction, and the induced signals in the transformer cancel each other out, resulting in an output signal of 0. When users use various means to steal electricity, the incoming and outgoing currents are different, and the currents on the two lines are not equal and exceed a certain value, the relay will trip and cut off power. This function is also applicable to leakage protection, so whether there is leakage or electricity theft, the energy meter will immediately cut off power.

Remote monitoring and data analysis:

smart prepayment meters also have real-time remote monitoring capabilities, which can collect users' electricity consumption data in real time and transmit the data to the power company's data center through wireless communication technology. Power companies can monitor users' electricity usage at any time, identify abnormal electricity usage behavior through data analysis, and take timely measures to prevent electricity theft.
